Dog Owners are More Attractive. Because Science.

A Huffington Post study found that nearly half of people in the UK (46%) believe that loving animals makes someone more attractive. Women, in particular, are more likely to be drawn to animal lovers (49%) compared to men (40%). The survey, which included over 2,000 adults, also showed that pet owners are seen as having great character traits.

It turns out our best friends’ best qualities (and fur) tend to rub off on us, or at least that’s what people think.

1/3 of respondents said that they thought someone with a dog was more likely to be loyal, kind, and compassionate. So maybe obedience school wasn’t just for your four-legged friend.

It’s not just attraction that dogs are helping us with. Of the 2,000 respondents 46% said that walking their dog is one of the easiest ways to make new friends. And a shocking 29% of people say they’ve met a lifelong friend whilst on a walk.

A study from Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine discovered that having a strong bond with your pet can lead to better social lives and relationships. Researchers surveyed 500 people aged 18 to 26 and found that those who were “very attached to their pets” felt more connected to their communities and had stronger relationships.

So next time you’re doomscrolling the gram, or binge-ing Netflix, think about going for a walk instead. You’ll get some fresh air, exercise, and might just meet a special someone along the way.
